The Trek
The Indrahar Pass trek, one of Himachal Pradesh’s easy to moderate treks, begins in McLeodganj, the Dalai Lama’s seat, and ends in Triund at 2,875 meters. The trek to Triund via Dharamkot village and Galu Devi provides a breathtaking view of Kangra Valley and Dharamshala town below. The trail from Triund to Lahesh Cave via Laka passes through a boulder-strewn meadow.
The journey for the day begins from Lahesh Cave, walking over the rocks straight on the North-East face of the ridge, keeping the steep wall of Mon to its right… The trail continues over the crest, passing through several ascents. The view from the past is breathtaking. The Kangra valley and the distant plains of Punjab lie in a blue haze to the south, while up north rises wave after wave of ranges such as the Pir Panjal is located to the north, Kishtwar is situated to the west, Bara Bangahal is located to the east, and Manimahesh is situated to the northeast.
The trail descends to Chhata, crossing an unnamed stream and a dark boulder before emerging into a beautiful valley dotted with various wildflowers. The route from Chhata snakes to Kuarsi via Kursi Nala and branches off at Brehi en route to Lamu, followed by Donald. Brehm serves as the entry point to Minikani Lake, and The road takes you to Kareri Lake, then to the Kareri camp, and then downhill to McLeodganj.
Preparation for the hike:
The trek’s difficulty level ranges from moderate to complex. Except for a few sections, the trail to Ilaqa Pass is easy, and it becomes more difficult as you approach Ilaqa Pass. It would be best if you began exercising at least two weeks before the trek date to increase your stamina and endurance and strengthen your muscles. Leg and thigh exercises are essential because your legs are always important when trekking. It’s game over if the legs are gone.
It would help if you practised yoga exercises such as “alom vilom” and “kapalbhati” so that you do not have any breathing problems. This trek does not require any special permits or forest permits. Bring your photo ID with you to show at the checkpoint at Galu Devi Temple. Liquor is not allowed to be transported, so avoid bringing it.
